So we're starting to warm up to Allentown life, which I can honestly say is a little different than life in the big city of Philadelphia. Not that I live in a podunk town, but it is smaller and more quaint. Lots of cornfields and farms--reminds me a lot of Lancaster and Scranton--2 areas I served in on my mission here in Pa. We discovered this fun little trout farm called Li-Le-Hi. It's a lot of fun for the kids because you can buy these big bags of trout food to feed them. There are hundreds of them, and they go ravenous at one morsal of food. If you look close at the photo, you can see a big glob of them.
Whle we there, Owen rescued a baby duck that he found shivering in the weeds. It had to only be about 3 days old, and there was no site of the mom. So, of course we had to bring the duck home, and We all of the sudden had a "Pet" which we aren't supposed to have. --(By the way, this had nothing to do with me.) Well, the duck took quite a fancying to Maggie, and all of the sudden Maggie was the ducklings new mommy. The duck snuggeled with her and cried whenever she left. Owen went out and bought a HUGE bag of duck food, and then...the novelty wore off. The duck wasn't as cool as it was on Saturday, and it was spending more time alone. I felt very sad for the duckling, thinking about him as a little newborn baby, and how he really needed a mommy to hold him all the time. Owen then found out that it was illegal to have a wild animal in you home, and so I called the wild life preserve and we dropped him off in hopes that he will be taken care of and released into the wild some day. I think my kids have had their first experience with at pet--and that they are a lot of work, and they aren't sure they are ready for the responsibility!
