Killing time

My mom had this really old beat up dresser that she wanted me to put my clothes in. I begged her to let me repaint it and put some new hardware on. She was slightly sentimental because she refinished it before she had my older brother 37 years ago. I had to remind her that it is 2008 and time to upgrade. I thought it turned out rather nice and Owen thought it looked like something from Pottery Barn. And it only cost me 20 bucks to do it all. Now I'm looking for my next home decorating project--my mom has this big cool looking green chair that my Grandma gave her when she passed away. I would love to reupholster it--anyone know how?--Cause I have no idea! Sorr the pics are sideways--for some reason they wouldn't flip.

Before

After

It's amazing what a little change of hardware can do!

Holly, the dresser looks wonderful! I did that same thing a few months ago. An older brother in our ward was moving and got rid of everything in his house, this dresser was about 40 years old or more probably. I had never redone furniture like that before, but I think it looks good. I'll post pics of mine soon! Good job!

Wow Holly! That looks fantastic and totally out of a Pottery Barn catalog.

Looks great! I'm working on James's dresser. Today I picked up the stain. Give me a call when you want to go to the corn wagon.

Looks great! I think all you need to redo a chair is a heavy duty staple gun (come to think of it I think Stacy still has mine!) and some fabric. It really is easier than it looks! Ash's mom is the queen at redoing furniture so let me know if you want her number.

I just did the same thing on a shelf for my boys. I painted in Navy. I love your piece... did you ever paint that incredibly heavy thing I sold you before we left Philly?

Hope all is well in Utah.

Thanks for posting the "Amazing RAce" date - I love that show, besides the news and Seinfeld reruns, it truly is the only thing I watch on TV. I dream that I'm a player on the show all the time!

Holly,
I didn't know when the Amazing Race was going to start again but I was just saying to Jaeson last night that I hoped I didn't miss it. I remember that we had our love of that show in common. I'm glad to see that I got Callie hooked as well. The dresser is awesome! What a beautiful job you did. Did you spray it? That is how my dad refinishes all of his pieces and they turn out smooth looking like yours. Nicely done lady!

Since you're just "killing time", maybe you could arrange to here next weekend -- we'll be doing marathon painting before we move into the house. LOL Come on, you KNOW you want to. :)

Really fun to talk and catch up yesterday!!

Wow! I thing you've found your new talent! I reapolstered a chair once and it turned out pretty good. I used a staple gun for all of it but the cushions. I made new cushion covers with a zipper in the back. The staple gun is nice because it holds well if you staple on the wood frame. Let me know when you want to get together again!:)

Dresser looks great! I just painted one of our old dressers for Lily's room! Fun times! So I just read you're in Utah for a While! We'll have to get together when I'm in town next time! I would have done the same thing you did, staying in Utah. I'm sure you won't regret it.
