October 18, 1995

Ok, this is the only photo I could find since all my mission photos are in storage. But it is a rather funny one. 13 years ago, I went into the MTC and on November 8, flew out to serve my mission in the Pennsylvania Harrisburg mission. Utah in the fall always reminds me of when I was first a missionary, and when I went to the Temple. I had so many awesome experiences as a missionary and wouldn't trade the hardest, yet most rewarding year and a half of my life! Now, come to think of it, I would say that being a parent might take over that hardest most rewarding --both challenging in different ways. I always laugh at this photo, because I had the BEST trainer Sister Maria VanCott, and she taught me how to work my tail off. This picture was taken in Millersville, Pa--right outside of Lancaster. It was COLD, ICE RAINING, and our cars were parked, so we had to ride bikes. I was only out maybe a week, and a little homesick, ok maybe a lot. We had just come back from a long day of tracting and getting lots of doors slammed in our faces. I was mad and not feeling the spirit. My comp took this pic to remind me of one of the most priceless moments in my life, and to help me remember that it was all for the Lord! Thanks Sis VanCott, for setting the stage for me to have a great mission. I wouldn't trade that time for anything, and hope that my children will have the desire to serve a mission someday.

That's hillarious! You two look like bag ladies with helmets on. So funny to look back on the more rough days and have a good laugh. It keeps us young!

I LOVE that picture. You look anything but enthusiastic. But I hear you.... what a hard core Sister you were! I know the Lord sends us where we can handle, because if I had been sent somewhere cold like you, oh, I worry about my ability to even get out of bed!

I also believe I had the best trainer in the world...I hate you. Please don't make me tract anymore...What was it Elder Sanders, aka Zone leader used to tell us...something about corn flakes? I can't remember. I have to say, though, that those were the hardest few months for me, but you somehow shoved me out the door and I'll never forgive you for it, it made me a better sister. Wow does that picture bring back memories of my mission. I was just turning in my papers when you went into the MTC and I left the following March. My children's babysitter is leaving to the MTC next Tues. and I am so excited for her. It truly is an experience I will forever treasure. I hope all of my children choose to go as well.

You look great... by the way, didn't you meet Owen on the mish?

P.S. You have the best halloween costumes for your kiddos... I love their pictures on the side. I still remember Maggie's chicken back in the day.

Okay, you're giving me cold sweats, and I'm sure to have nightmares now. Thank you very much Sister B. for reminding me of those Pennsylvania winters. That first one for us was brutal...snow, snow, snow, freezing rain, and a seemingly endless six months of grey skies.

It's funny, however, to look at that picture and imagine myself in a very similar situation on the very same date. Unfortunately, my "dad" wasn't as cheerful as your "mom".

I love this picture. Reminds me of the good ol' days in Pennsylvania... HARRISBURG...
The place I served my mission...
Where I learned to preach the word.

There. I hope you have that song stuck in your head the rest of the day.
