Is it time for a Big Boy Bed???
Drew turned 2 last month, and I really wanted to buy him a new bed. But since we're moving in June, we settled for his crib that converts into a twin bed by taking the outer rail off. First mistake...read on...Last night when we put him to bed, he fell right to sleep. When Owen and I went to bed, and I checked on him, he was on the floor. I had layed pillows next to his bed so it wouldn't be too hard of a fall. I decided that I should probably check on him later in case he falls out again. I mentally woke myself up at 4 a.m., and when I went in there, Drew wasn't there and neither were his blankets. I went into the girls room, and no Drew. After checking every room upstairs, I went to the main level, and no Drew. This is when I started to panic. The lights were on in the basement, and I wondered if they got shut off the night before. When I went down there, there was no Drew. I immediately thought someone had broke in and kidnapped him and was about to run up and get Owen, when I looked in the long vertical closet where I found Drew in the corner asleep. After i woke him up, and marched him up to bed, I had a little chat with him about staying in bed. He just gave me a big smile. Little stink! I'm not really sure what happened. DId he wake up and didn't know that we were asleep in our room, and went downstairs looking for us? Was he sleepwalking? Did he just have too much freedom now and went downstairs to play? I think it was the first one, and so now I'm going to have to put some alarms on his door. He knows how to open the front door, so that could be really scary! So I was a little freaked out there for a moment, and maybe we're just not ready for him to have his freedom!

Holly... that little Drew is so cute. I am freaked out just reading your post. Anyway, I sometimes wish my kiddos would find a closet to sleep in, instead of finding me and climbing in...JK.
Ha, ha. That is a funny story. Yeah, I know it scared you... but from my perspective it really is funny! :)
That is a lot of freedom! I don't know what to tell you. I do not like transitions myself - I have to cut the nursing in a couple of weeks and that doesn't sound easy either. Good luck...keep me posted!
Stacy was a sleepwalker when she was little and actually did walk out of the house during winter! Luckily my parents heard the front door slam shut because she would have been stuck outside in the cold! Scary!
That is too scary. You need to find a way to strap him to the bed. I would have had a heart attack. Good luck with that!
Put one of those plastic kid proof door knob covers on the inside of his bedroom door so that he can't get out by himself. (That's how we keep Olivia from opening the front door by herself. Even though she's almost five I'm far too paranoid to give her that much freedom yet.)
You might have to booby trap his room every night so something loud would wake you up or scare him back into his bed! ;) How scary! I would have been some scared and it seems like you are extra anxious when things like that happen in the wee hours of the night. Hope you get it figured out! We'll be dealing with that soon also I'm sure.
You're brave, I wish Courtney could sleep in a crib forever. I hate the transition from crib to bed! Sam still wakes up every night and I make Mark go take him back to bed. I get so grumpy when my kids wake up at night. I'm not looking forward to Courtney doing the bed, which will have to be soon w/ new babe on the way.
Holy panic attack! But great story. Those kids will get you every time.
